Hamad Al-Ghali, Director of the Private Schools Licensing Department at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, has revealed a series of efforts and initiatives led by the department aimed at strengthening the private education system in Qatar.
In an exclusive interview with Asharq Al-Awsat, Al-Ghaly explained that his department received 22 applications to establish new schools and kindergartens for the upcoming academic year, stressing that the ministry is encouraging investors through facilities such as exemptions from electricity, water, and customs duties, in addition to providing infrastructure in coordination with relevant authorities.
“ Submitted applications are being reviewed, and if they are verified to meet the requirements, applicants will be provided with approval to complete the procedures, which ends on June 30, 2025. If the educational license is not obtained before this date, this approval will not be valid,” he said.
On the criteria used when considering requests to increase private school fees, Hamad Al-Ghali said: “ Private schools and kindergartens are required to submit and disclose their audited financial statements when requesting approval for tuition increases. Audited financial statements provide a clear picture of the school’s financial position.”
They must also provide evidence and documents supporting the financial statements. “ The request for an increase in tuition fees must be accompanied by measurable and evaluable justifications and a statement of the impact of the increase in the future,” he added.
“Private schools and kindergartens that have more than one branch and have applied for an increase must submit their financial data separately for each branch,” he added.
A school that has received a tuition increase is not entitled to receive the increase again for two years to reflect the effect of the increase in its financial statements.
