The Qatar Meteorology Department (QMD) has issued a warning of strong winds, dust storm and rising wave expected to begin Monday evening and intensify from Tuesday, May 6, continuing through the weekend.

The QMD has said that “the Arabian Peninsula is currently experiencing scattered dust storms, which are anticipated to impact the country in the coming hours.”

Expecting rough weather, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) has warned schools, parents and students to take precautions.

The Ministry said on social media: “In the interest of public safety, and due to weather forecasts indicating the possibility of dusty conditions tomorrow, the Ministry urges schools, parents, and students to take the necessary precautionary measures, minimise outdoor activities, and follow the safety guidelines recommended by the Health and Safety Administration.”

The Meteorology Department said that the rough weather conditions may lead to a significant reduction in visibility, and in some cases, complete lack of visibility. “All individuals are advised to exercise utmost caution and take necessary safety precautions,” the Department said.

Wave heights are forecast to range between 5 and 9 feet, occasionally peaking at 13 feet.
Meanwhile, a powerful dust storm has blanketed large parts of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Jordan, triggering travel disruptions, flash floods and emergency evacuations, Gulf News reported.

Authorities in all three countries have issued red alerts and warned of further weather instability in the coming days.
