FIFA announced Wednesday that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia officially won the right to host 2034 World Cup during an extraordinary meeting of the General Assembly that was virtually held on Wednesday.

Saudi Arabia has officially submitted the bid to host the edition of the World Cup finals last July, in which it unveiled its plans to host the competition.

The country will host the World Cup matches at 15 stadiums, distributed across five host cities, namely Riyadh, Jeddah, Khobar, Abha, and Neom, along with ten additional hosting locations throughout Saudi Arabia.

Fireworks illuminated the skies of Riyadh, Jeddah, Alkhobar, Abha, NEOM, Al-Qassim, and Jubail at 8:34 p.m. on Wednesday, after the official announcement from an online ceremony.

The football-themed festivities, which run until Dec. 14, invite citizens and residents to showcase their national pride by wearing football jerseys and sharing their moments on social media using the hashtag #Saudi2034.

Morocco, Portugal and Spain were appointed as the hosts of the FIFA World Cup 2030™, with three centenary celebration matches to be held in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay (one in each country)
The appointment by acclamation of the hosts of the 2030 and 2034 editions of the FIFA World Cup concludes a thorough bidding process initiated in October 2023 following the unanimous proposal made by the FIFA Council and supported by all confederations, with a view to providing harmony and rotation between the confederations in relation to the hosting cycle for the tournament.

Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani sent a cable of congratulations to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud of the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and HRH Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, on the occasion of the Kingdom winning the bid to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup.
