Qatar rises in Passport rankings, secures 47th spot globally

India’s passport ranking slips to 85th place in 2025 in Henley Passport Index

The Henley Passport Index has released its 2025 edition of the Global Passport Rankings, positioning Qatar’s passport at 47th globally.

Qatar’s passport saw a significant progress in the latest edition, climbing six spots to 47th place globally. This ranking grants Qatari citizens visa-free access to 112 destinations worldwide, solidifying Qatar’s status as a key player in global mobility within the GCC region.

The Henley Passport Index, renowned as one of the most authoritative global mobility rankings, draws on 19 years of historical data in collaboration with the International Air Transport Authority (IATA). The index evaluates 199 passports and 227 travel destinations, making it a critical benchmark for assessing international travel freedom.

Among GCC countries, Qatar stands second, following the UAE, which leads the region at an impressive 10th place globally. Kuwait ranks 50th, while Saudi Arabia and Bahrain share the 58th spot. Oman rounds out the GCC rankings at 59th.

In contrast, India’s passport ranking has slipped to 85th place in 2025, down five spots from the previous year. India’s previous position in the Henley Passport Index was 80th in 2024.

As of 2025, Singapore continues to lead the way as home to the world’s strongest passport, offering its holders visa-free access to an impressive 195 destinations.

Japan secures the second position with visa-free access to 193 destinations. In third place, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, South Korea, and Spain are tied, offering their citizens access to 192 destinations. Austria, Denmark, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden share the fourth spot with access to 191 destinations. Meanwhile, Belgium, New Zealand, Portugal, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom rank fifth, granting access to 190 destinations.

At the other end of the table, at No. 106, Afghanistan remains in the worst position, with visa-free access to only 26 locations, two less than last year. Syria is at No. 105 (with 27 destinations), while Iraq is at No. 104 (with 31).
