The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) has announced the confiscation of a large number of illegal bird-calling devices, known as “sawat,” from various wilderness areas. In a video shared on its official X account, the Ministry detailed the operations, emphasizing its commitment to curbing environmental violations.

A special team under the Wildlife Protection Department has been formed to intensify evening inspections and address environmental violations, including the use of such devices. These devices are often employed to lure birds for hunting, which contravenes regulations aimed at preserving Qatar’s wildlife.

The Ministry has reiterated the importance of adhering to Ministerial Resolution No. 24 of 2023, which governs the hunting season for birds and wild animals in the country. Violators face legal consequences as part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to protect Qatar’s natural environment and wildlife.
